This Labor Day weekend, the Freedom Foundation celebrated significant milestones in our mission to empower workers.
Last week, our outreach team supported nearly 1,600 public employees in their decision to cancel union dues – the highest number of membership opt-outs over a seven day span in the Foundation’s history.
This isn’t just a record-breaking week; it also capped off our most successful month to date. In August, the Freedom Foundation saw 4,800 workers walk away from government union membership.
California and Washington state led the way. In California, the Service Employees International Union Locals 2015 and 1000, plus other Golden State government unions, lost more than 1,700 members. In Washington, the Washington Education Association and the Washington Federation of State Employees, among others, lost over 900 dues-payers.
In August alone, the Freedom Foundation’s efforts cost government unions over $4,500,000 in dues revenue.
More than just a financial hit to the radical political agenda of union bosses, these numbers signify a power shift in the labor movement. The myth that government unions serve their members’ best interests is crumbling.
More and more workers are recognizing that these organizations often prioritize advancing their own special interests over protecting the rights and needs of their members.
As public employees continue to retake control of their workplace representation by holding funding from Big Labor’s misguided priorities, the Freedom Foundation’s determination to empower workers isn’t slowing anytime soon.
