Hot on the heels of a record-breaking November, the Freedom Foundation’s New York operations swept into December with more opt outs in the first three days of the month than were reported in all of December 2021.
At the beginning of the month, public employees from around the state received an email with the subject line “Have you seen this yet?” advertising our very own dues calculator.
Yet again, members of Public Employees Federation (PEF) as well as the New York Civil Service Employees (CSEA) opted out in droves after learning how much money they could save over the course of 20 years by terminating their monthly dues deductions.
The dues-calculator email generated a great deal of opt-outs, but what came next was even more gratifying.
Two weeks after the first email, we sent a Christmas-themed message to thousands more public employees with the subject line “Christmas savings for union members!” The cheery message was meant to serve as a reminder from Santa that opting out was a great way to save money for more important things — like presents and routine living expenses.
Needless to say, fireworks ensued. Our Christmas message to public employees quickly became the most successful email campaign to date in New York, generating 27 opt-outs in one day and contributing to 65 opt-outs for the week.
The wildly successful email campaigns, in addition to a steady stream of opt-out forms sent to our office following our Thanksgiving mailer, have put New York on track to setting a new monthly record for opt-outs for a second consecutive month.
What’s even more exciting is that, as of this writing, our Christmas mail piece is just beginning to arrive in mailboxes across the state, and we have no doubt the record amount of mail we’re sending this year will yield even more public employee opt-outs from the Excelsior State than ever before.
New York is ending 2022 in record fashion but stay tuned. What we have planned for 2023 will blow 2022 out of the water.
Merry Christmas.
