In a Mar. 18 public post on the AFSCME DC 37 local blog, the union gave the Freedom Foundation an unintentionally generous plug about the success and consistency of the outreach team’s efforts.
The author, identified as Mike Lee, is presumably a member or official of New York City’s largest public employee union and wrote the post to warn his fellow members about a so-called “scam” being perpetrated by the Freedom Foundation.
In the course of his spiel, Lee also refers to the Freedom Foundation as “door-to-door union killers” — a phrase stolen without attribution from a story about the Freedom Foundation appearing in The Guardian back in 2016.
He then implies the organization’s mailings and emails are deceptive, predatory and an outright scam meant to undermine the “benefits” unionized workers have gained over the years.
Quick question, Mike: Doesn’t a “scam” usually require taking anyone’s money?
Since 2018, the Freedom Foundation has successfully helped more 200,000 workers leave their unions, saving each of them upwards an average of around $100 a month in dues. And every dime of that money stays in the worker’s pocket.
Unlike the unions, which receive a direct financial benefit for every member it can keep in the fold by any means necessary, the Freedom Foundation is in the business of helping workers exercise their First Amendment rights.
Which side is actually running a scam?
Lastly, to be deceptive, there would need to be an ulterior motive. But the mission of the Freedom Foundation and passionate work of our Happy Warriors, has never been more transparent.
Fortunately, we know a secret that union shills like Mike Lee seem incapable of learning — trashing the Freedom Foundation only drives more disgruntled members into our waiting arms. By now, government employees know their union won’t hesitate to lie about everything else; why would they assume it’s telling the truth about the Freedom Foundation?
We couldn’t buy advertising as effective as what the unions are handing us for free.
