“Gavin Newsom picking Laphonza Butler to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s passing a few days ago is terribly revealing not only of his political aspirations but also that Big Labor is calling all the shots in California and the national Democrat party,” said Eloise Smith, Freedom Foundation spokesperson.

“Laphonza Butler is a well-connected union boss who ran the SEIU in California for years and pushed for all the Big Labor political items you’d expect, like a higher minimum wage, increasing wealth taxes, and unionizing in-home health providers against their will,” continued Smith.

“Ms. Butler advised Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign and worked for a political firm that helped elect Newsom himself, but she doesn’t even live in California!” said Smith.

“Gov. Newsom just told his constituents and the rest of the country that there isn’t a single person living in the state he thinks is better or more qualified than a bigwig union crony in Maryland, but that’s okay because she has all the right union ties and that’s important when you’re planning your future presidential run.”
