Public Employees in New York are Waking Up

Public employees in New York are waking up. In the first quarter of 2025, the number of workers choosing to leave their union has exploded.

This isn’t coincidence. It’s the result of our relentless outreach at the Freedom Foundation. We’ve been making it crystal clear that union dues are no longer mandatory, and workers have a choice.

The surge in workers opting out has been dramatic, and it’s accelerating quickly. Over the past two years, we’ve seen an incredible 155 percent increase. New Yorkers are getting the message loud and clear — they don’t need to pay union dues, and they’re taking control of their futures.

This change is hitting big government unions in New York right where it hurts — their wallets. If the average worker pays about $900 a year in union dues, you can imagine how much the unions are losing as more and more members cancel their dues.

The financial toll is massive. Just this quarter, the spike in workers choosing freedom over dues has slashed union revenues by a staggering amount — easily running into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

That’s a lot of lost revenue, and it’s only going to grow. As more workers wake up to their rights, this trend will only accelerate.

Make no mistake, the Freedom Foundation is everywhere. Mail, email, canvassing, digital ads, social media, phone calls — wherever public employees are. From New York City to Buffalo, we’re there.

Our outreach is relentless, and it’s working. Every day, more workers are waking up to the fact that they have a choice.

Since the fall 2022, we’ve been turning up the heat in the Empire State. The momentum is growing and the unions are scrambling to hang on.

As recently as March, they’ve been calling us “door-to-door union killers” in an attempt to discredit our efforts. But workers aren’t having it.

The truth is simple: You can keep your job, keep your benefits and stop paying union dues.

One worker shared, “I opted out because AFSCME was useless to me. I can spend my own money better than they can, thank you for your help.”

Another added, “The union is too political. I don’t like the progressive ideology the union is subscribing to.”

These are just two voices among many who are tired of being told what to do with their hard-earned money.

The unions can’t stop it. The more workers understand their rights, the more they’ll choose freedom.

And as this movement continues, big government unions in New York will be forced to adjust.

The best part? We’re not slowing down. Not even a little bit.

We’re committed to reaching every public employee in New York — educating them on their rights and empowering them to take control of their financial future.

With every passing day, this movement grows stronger, and more workers are choosing freedom over union servitude.

We won’t stop pushing, reaching and winning until every public employee knows they don’t have to pay union dues.
